What Counts as an Emergency
Not every appliance problem is urgent, but some genuinely are. We move these to the front of the schedule:
- A built-in refrigerator or freezer that has stopped cooling with food inside.
- Water leaking from a unit onto hardwood, near cabinetry, or through a ceiling below.
- Any gas cooking fault: a burner that will not shut off, a persistent gas odor, or an igniter sparking without lighting.
- A wall oven that stays locked or overheats after a self-clean cycle.
What to Do While You Wait
For a warm refrigerator, keep the doors closed to hold cold air and move the most perishable items to a working unit or a cooler with ice. A full, closed freezer can hold temperature for a day or more if it stays shut. For a leak, place towels and a shallow pan to catch water and pull the unit's power if the outlet is dry and reachable.
